Stained Glass Restoration - Restoration, Conservation or Repair
Raynal Studios, craftsmen restore, conserve and repair stained glass; however, the three terms refer to three different meanings.
Repair - The repair of stained glass is generally a temporary fix to prolong the lifespan of the structure of the original matrix
of the stained glass window. A repaired panel should last around five to ten years.
Conservation - Conservation of a stained
glass window can be compared to routine maintenance. If a window is in generally good shape however, has minor problems conserving
the stained glass stops the minor problems from becoming major ones.
Restoration - The restoration of a stained glass window is
returning a window to like -new or better condition. Restoration is much more time complicated, time consuming and requires a
considerably higher skill level of craftsmen.
A properly restored one-hundred year old window should last another one-hundred years.
